From The Telegraph:
The record price for a watercolour by JMW Turner was smashed when an anonymous buyer paid £5.8 million - the estimate was £2 million - for one of his most admired works.
The sale at Christie's in London, which also sets a world record price for any British work of art on paper, may prove to be gloomy news for the nation's public collections.
They must now face up to the prospect of losing all three of Turner's celebrated views of the Swiss mountain, Rigi.
The three, known as the Dark Rigi (an early morning view), the Blue Rigi (just after sunrise) and the Red Rigi (a similar view at sunset), were painted as a series in the 1840s and were until recently all owned by private British collectors.
